How to refresh your hair without washing it – check out the best ways!

Fatty hair looks unsightly and detracts from your overall appearance. The sleek look keeps gaining popularity because it is elegant, slimming and sexy. The quick-fixes for greasy hair help cover up the problem for just a few hours. Find out how to quickly freshen up your hair without washing it!

How to freshen up your hair without washing it: The tried and tested methods of our grandmothers

Potato flour

The easiest way to refresh your hair without washing it is plain potato flour, which everyone can find in their kitchen. This method was already used by our grandmothers and great grandmothers. As we all know potato is rich in starch which absorbs fat very well.

By applying potato flour (or starch) to your hair and lightly rubbing it into your scalp you will get rid of excess sebum and the effect of unsightly greasy hair. Just remember to brush the flour out of your hair a few minutes after applying it or you won’t be able to avoid white marks on your head.

Other “loose” methods for greasy hair without washing

The same way as potato flour works on greasy hair, corn flour also contains starch, which absorbs sebum. For an express refreshment of the hairstyle we can also use baby powder, which, thanks to the presence of talc, will help us get rid of excess fat from the hair and scalp. Cosmetic clay is another product, which quickly cleanses your hair and removes sebum from your hair.

Clay, corn flour and baby powder should be used in the same way as potato flour – apply a small amount of the product to the scalp and to the roots of your hair, rub it in, leave for 3-4 minutes and then comb it out thoroughly.

How to Hide Fatty Hair: Do you like to wear a special hairstyle or perhaps a hat?

braided hairstyles

The quick way to hide oily hair without washing it? Cover it up! This can be done with a headscarf, scarf, headband, hat or baseball cap. Big decorative combs and thick ribbons also work well.

Not always is there a good time to wear a hat or hair accessory. In those cases, you may want to play around with the hairstyle.

Simply teasing your hair or using thick rollers and then spraying hairspray on top of them and pinning or tying them up lifts the hair from the roots, protects it from oil and gives it more volume and a fresher look. Partially hiding fatty hair can also be achieved by braiding your hair or changing the position of the parting.

The Shopper’s Saviour: Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoos have been popular for some time now. They quickly and effectively revitalise greasy hair without washing it. Dry shampoos are available in spray or powder form. Depending on the type and colour of hair, we can choose the right variant for us (e.g. dry shampoo for light hair, dry shampoo for uplifting hair etc.).

However, not everyone likes dry shampoos. If you have a sensitive scalp, dry shampoo may cause an allergic reaction, e.g. rash, itching or dandruff. If our hair is weak, thin and fragile, dry shampoo may worsen its condition and increase hair loss.

An alternative to buying dry shampoo is homemade dry shampoo, which we can do without the use of chemical substances that adversely affect our hair. How to make homemade dry shampoo? Pour some potato, corn or rice flour into a talcum powder container, salt shaker or any other container with a vented cap. Add some cocoa or cinnamon (if you have darker hair) or 3-4 drops of lemon oil (if you have light hair). Mix the ingredients and your homemade dry shampoo is ready.
